Time for supper in Havana? Nothing like Cuba’s traditional meat stew to quench your hunger.

This beef stew is one of Cuba’s most popular dishes. The name, Ropa Vieja (meaning “Old Clothes” in Spanish) refers to the dish’s presentation: meat shreds accompanied by rice, black beans and tomato sauce. The end result is something that looks like a pile of old rags! But don’t let yourself be disturbed by that image. This is one of Cuba’s tastiest popular dishes.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Ropa Vieja is widely served in restaurants all over the city, both at the historic centre (Habana Vieja) and elsewhere.
