Every year, Luena celebrates its elevation to city status with a major festivity.

Luena was once a town known as Vila Luso. It gained city status 1975, the same year it acquired its current name. Every year, from September 10th to the 15th, the event is remembered with official commemorations and a programming that includes several cultural events and activities, music, dance, exhibitions and traditional festivities such as the Mukanda (a circumcision ceremony).

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The celebrations take place all over the city, so you may wander around and contact the locals or the authorities to find out about the event programme.
