November 15, 2023: TAAG Angola Airlines announced today at Dubai Airshow 2023 an order to GE Aerospace for eight GEnx-1B engines and one spare to power the fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft.
Last October, TAAG Angola Airlines partnered with Boeing to renew its fleet with four 787 Dreamliners.
In addition to this order, TAAG signed a TrueChoice™ material services agreement for their fleet of five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft powered by GE90 engines. GE Aerospace will provide TAAG with spare parts, component repair, and used serviceable part upgrades for its GE90-115B engine fleet.
"We're delighted to continue expanding our connection with GE Aerospace," said Eduardo Fairen, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines. "This agreement highlights our ongoing commitment to updating our fleet with more efficient equipment, while also improving the flight experience for our valued customers," said Kathy MacKenzie, Vice President of GE Commercial Programs for GE Aerospace.
"These agreements also showcase TAAG Angola Airlines' continued confidence in our engines and services. We are thrilled to provide the airline with the highly efficient and reliable GEnx engines, while maintaining support for their GE90 fleet."
The GEnx engine family has accumulated over 50 million flight hours since its launch in 2011 and is GE's fastest-selling, high-thrust engine with almost 3,000 engines currently serviced or on backlog, along with spares.
The GEnx-1B serves as the power source for two-thirds of the 787 aircraft that are currently in service. Additionally, the engine produces fuel savings of 1.4% during a regular 787 mission, as compared to its competitors. This added fuel efficiency results in an annual reduction of over 2 million pounds of CO2 per aircraft. Like all GE Aerospace engines, the GEnx is capable of operating on approved Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends at present.
A symbol of a monumental advancement in propulsion technology, the GEnx employs light, durable materials and advanced design methodologies to lessen weight, enhance performance, and decrease maintenance. These traits make it the optimal engine selection for long haul flights
GEnx's revenue-sharing partners include IHI Corporation of Japan, GKN Aerospace Engine Systems of the UK, MTU of Germany, TechSpace Aero (Safran) of Belgium, Safran Aircraft Engines of France, and Samsung Techwin of Korea.
